Parliament to discuss long-term Roma integration programme 5. 6. 2007
Budapest-The Parliament scheduled to discuss a ten-year draft programme seeking to help the integration of Hungary`s Roma minority, Katalin Levai Juhasz, MP of the governing Socialist Party, said on Friday.
Priorities in the programme include social and economic integration and reducing the gap between Roma and non-Roma communities within society, as well as improving the image of the Roma minority, the MP said. She added that the programme would focus on four key areas: education, employment, accommodation and health care.
Levai Juhasz reiterated that Hungary was a member of a central and eastern European cooperation programme, in which the government was required to complete an action plan every two years; she added that the government would come up with its first such plan before August 31.
