World famous for their popular brand of Romany music, the Gipsy Kings released a new compilation cd last week. The new cd has already sold 9,466 copies last week, making its debut at 32 on the popular music charts.
Since the 1987 release of their hit single “Bamboleo” the Gipsy Kings have been on a consistant winning streak. They have dominated the World Music charts, selling 14 million albums worldwide, more than 4 million in the United States alone.
The Very Best of the Gipsy Kings features 20 of the band’s most popular songs on one disc, including Bamboleo, Volare, and Hotel California. This new cd replaces two other greatest hits collections: 1994’s Greatest Hits album, and 1999’s double cd collection Volare: The Very Best of the Gipsy Kings.
The band, who hails from France, sings exclusively in their native dialect of Romany, gitane. (Dzeno Association)
